Boosting Berkshire Book Club

Hannah Allen | 04-02-21

Inspired by listening to the wonderful 'Breakfast minus the bullshit' show run by Julie Creffield, Helen Pritchard & Gemma Went on Clubhouse this morning, I've made a note of all the fabulous books they and their listeners have recommended. Some of these are novels - but with inspiring & sometimes secret life changing undertones.

Our book club will run on Clubhouse so make sure you join our Boosting Berkshire Facebook group to keep updated.

So straight in we go...

The Women who run with Wolves

Clarissa Pinkola Estes

In the classic Women Who Run With The Wolves, Clarissa Pinkola Estes tells us about the 'wild woman', the wise and ageless presence in the female psyche that gives women their creativity, energy and power. For centuries, the 'wild woman' has been repressed by a male-orientated value system which trivialises women's emotions. Using a combination of time-honoured stories and contemporary casework, Estes reveals that the 'wild woman' in us is innately healthy, passionate and wise.

Thoughtfully written and compelling in its arguments, Women Who Run With The Wolves gives readers a new sense of direction, a self confidence and purpose in their lives. Buy from Amazon

Playing Big

Tara Mohr

Five years ago, Tara Mohr began to see a pattern in her work as an expert in leadership: women with tremendous talent, ideas and aspiration were not recognising their own brilliance. They felt that they were ‘playing small’ in their lives and careers and wanted to ‘play bigger’, but didn’t know how. And so Tara devised a step-by-step programme for playing big from the inside out: this book is the result.

Once the neglected son of an alcoholic father and a mother with chronic depression, he has gone on to become a leading neurosurgeon, based at Stanford University. A Little Light on the Spiritual Laws

Diane Cooper

A Little Light on the Spiritual Laws sets out clearly and simply 36 Spiritual Laws which govern life on Earth. Vividly illustrated with stories and metaphors, it shows how to achieve prosperity, success, gratitude and purification. If you do not understand the rules of the game you cannot play in the top league. In the same way you cannot be happy, healthy and successful until you understand the Laws of Life. This book offers a definitive, accessible guide to mastering life and when practised at the highest level, it contains the keys to heaven.

The Healing Power of Illness

Thorwald Dethlefsen; Rüdiger Dahlke

This radical book deprives us of illness as an alibi for our unresolved problems. It attempts to show that the patient is not the innocent victim of some quirk of nature, but actually the author of his or her own sickness. In this way Dethlefsen and Dahlke bring the metaphysical aspect of illness to the fore. From this viewpoint symptoms are seen to be bodily expressions of psychological conflicts, able through their symbolism to reveal the patient's current problems.
